Happy Saint Patrick's Day!

Lizzy just wants to say: "Happy Saint Patrick's Day!!"

Jamie took these pics and they turned out so cute!

Truffles, Pigs.. Ohh How I Love Food.

Those who know Dave and I best know that we absolutely LOVE mushrooms! We are just obsessed with them lately. So you can imagine our excitement when, just recently, one of Dave's patients generously gave him 3 whole, fresh black winter truffles!! Despite my love of mushrooms, I knew very little about black winter truffles so I googled them and this is what I found: -They are known as the black diamonds of the kitchen

-Are mainly harvested in Europe with the aid of female pigs or truffle dogs.

-They have never been successfully grown and can only be "hunted" for in old growth forests.

-Have been used as delicacies, aphrodisiacs, and medicines since the time of the Greeks/Romans

-They have a pungent odor that is good for flavoring food.

Needless to say, we were very excited by the prospect of trying the "diamonds" of the mushroom world. Despite their odd odor, and our slight fear of trying them they tasted great!

We then moved on to eating the "hunter" of the truffles- the pig!!

I took a picture of this huge bowl of kalua pork as a funny memento for Dave and I.

There was a great sale on pork and Dave LOVES kalua so we bought up 15 lbs. We figured we could freeze it and have pork ready to go for the next year! It generally needs to cook all day, but since there was so much pork it took SOO long! We kept checking it all day, and it still wasn't quite right until, finally, it was 1:00 AM in morning and we were finally able pull it out and shred it. We were so tired and worn out while we tediously shredded the pork all night. But we had a deliriously fun time. I think some of our greatest times together are spent in the kitchen!

Momma Called the Doctor and the Doctor Said...

Everywhere we go people always comment on how little or big Lizzy is. Half the people say, "She's so big!" and the other half say, "She's so small!"

Now I know why- she's in the 50th percentile, exactly in the middle.

So how come no one ever says, "She's juuuust the right size!"?

She had such a sad face after her vaccinations it melted her daddy's heart. :(

Standing All By Myself!!

Lizzy's latest trick is that she stands up all by herself! She needs to be watched carefully becuase she is learning how to balance herself (those slippery Ensigns can really throw a girl off balance!), but she can stand on those baby legs for a good 3 to 4 minutes!

4 MONTHS OLD!!!

Elizabeth is now 4 months old! I cannot believe it! Its been so warm I took her outside for some 4 month old pics.

Elizabeth's View of the World at 4 Months:

I am now used to and comfortable with my routine environments and objects. So, whenever I see a new toy or go exploring outside it is exciting. I love to stare at and study the beautiful world around me.
I love to smile and laugh at people, especially other babies. I get a little bit anxious around new people so please don't grab me from my mommy's arms, or I will scream! I may need some time to look at and get used to you before I will let you hold me. I love to laugh and smile. Some of my favorite games and activities are peek-a-boo, the tickle monster, visiting Lizzy in the mirror, playing with other babies, taking baths, going for walks outside, and as strange as this may sound, I absolutely love getting my diaper changed and will hold my legs high up in the air for you to help out!

My guilty pleasure is watching TV, but my mom rarely accomodates this desire.

I love sitting in my bumbo seat, playing in my caterpillar gym, and jumping in my jumperoo!

I am very vocal now and will shriek, grunt, babble, and make razz noises just to entertain myself.

I am a strong girl with lots of muscles! I can stand up and support my own weight for a couple minutes as long as I have someone's hands to hold onto for balance. I can roll over when one of my arms is tucked under me but to be honest I have little interest in such activities. I hate being on my tummy.

Alex and Lizzy

Lizzy got together with her friend Alex today and they were so cute. They are both just barely old enough to interact with each other a little bit. Alex was born just two days after Lizzy. His mom, Mindy, and I were both in the hospital at the same time. Unfortunately, Mindy stayed in the hospital quite a bit longer than me. She actually has quite the miracle birth story.
Lizzy was not quite sure if she wanted to share her bug toy.
Alex: "Elizabeth, my beauty, will you marry me?"
Elizabeth: "I have to ask my mommy..."

The video of these two is so cute! This is Lizzy's first attempt at sharing.

My Little Chatter Box

Elizabeth has been such a chatter box lately. I'm still trying to teach her not to talk with her mouth full though!

These were some of her more tame babbling sessions. I haven't recorded it yet, but sometimes she lets out these ear piercing shrieks of joy. Every morning she wakes up and starts babbling to herself. Then she gets louder and louder til I go in and get her. It sure beats the phase where all she could do was cry!
